Kazakh representative headed OSCE committee

Astana. January 23. Kazakhstan Today - The Kazakhstan representative became the head of the OSCE Committee on Economic Affairs and Environment, the Kazakh MFA official representative Yerzhan Ashikbayev informed today at the briefing in Astana.

He reminded that according to the resolution adopted in December, 2006 in Brussels at the OSCE session of the Ministerial Council of Foreign Affairs, three profile committees are being created within the organization: the Security Committee, the Economic Affairs and Environment Committee and Committee on Human Dimension Issues.

After the consultations of 56 OSCE member states, the acting Spanish presidency made the decision to delegate powers of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Environment to the permanent representative of the Republic Kazakhstan in OSCE, the Ambassador Dulat Kuanyshev," Y. Ashikbayev informed.

According to the diplomat, the first session of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Environment under the presidency of Kazakhstan took place on January 19. "During the session the questions of preparation of the first part of the 15th annual economic-ecological OSCE forum were discussed," he said.

"Presidency of Kazakhstan in one of the main OSCE committees evidently demonstrates strengthening of positions of our state in the organization. This event became the recognition of the role of Kazakhstan and other states located to the east from Vienna, their participation in OSCE processes," the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
