Kazakh School Students Win Gold and Three Silver Medals at International Chemistry Olympiad

Kazakh school students won one gold and three silver medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), held in Tashkent, according to the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan.
Aizere Zhengiskhanova was awarded the gold medal, while Ansar Zhaksylykov, Abilmansur Kali and Danil Poletayev claimed silver medals.
The Kazakh national team was led and coached by Anuar Nurtazin and Sanzhar Begdair.
The embassy congratulated the students, their coaches and parents on their outstanding performance, wishing the national team new scientific achievements, further victories and continued success at international Olympiads.
The International Chemistry Olympiad, first held in 1968, is regarded as one of the world's largest and most prestigious academic competitions for secondary school students. This year's event brought together more than 300 participants from over 90 countries. The next International Chemistry Olympiad will be held in China in 2027.

Yermek Kosherbayev Notes Strengthening of Kazakhstan-Singapore Relations

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev noted the strengthening of Kazakhstan-Singapore relations in a congratulatory message to Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, an agency correspondent reports.
"Singapore holds a distinguished position on the global stage, serving as a prime example of a small nation that not only thrives in a turbulent world but also actively shapes the international agenda. I note with great satisfaction the continued strengthening of Kazakhstan-Singapore relations," the foreign minister said.
According to Kosherbayev, multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Singapore continues to expand steadily, particularly in trade, investment and international diplomacy.
Yermek Kosherbayev wished the friendly people of Singapore well-being and prosperity, and his counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan continued success.

Multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Singapore will continue to develop steadily for the benefit of the peoples of both countries, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in a congratulatory message to Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, according to Akorda.
In his message, Tokayev highlighted the special significance of Singapore’s Independence Day for its people as a symbol of national unity, sovereignty and the country’s sustainable development.

Astana and Athens Discuss Energy Security Issues

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Georgios Gerapetritis.
During the conversation, the sides discussed current issues related to strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, as well as promising areas of cooperation.
Energy cooperation was at the focus of the talks between the heads of the foreign ministries, with particular emphasis on the sustainability of global hydrocarbon transportation routes.
The Ministers discussed the situation surrounding the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), a key artery supplying European markets with Kazakh oil.
The sides agreed that the stable operation of the CPC directly depends on adherence to the principles of free and safe maritime navigation, and stressed that any attempts to destabilize the route are unacceptable.
The diplomats also addressed a broad range of issues on the bilateral agenda, expressing their shared commitment to expanding ties in areas of mutual interest.

Kazakhstan, Mongolia Strengthen Water Cooperation

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Mongolia Almas Seitakynov, met with Zeneemyadaryn Batbayar Director of Mongolia’s Water Agency.
The two sides discussed prospects for expanding Kazakh-Mongolian cooperation in water resource management, the introduction of water-saving technologies and the sustainable use of water resources.
Particular attention was given to the exchange of expertise in water monitoring and protection, access to safe drinking water, drought and flood prevention, and efforts to address the consequences of climate change.
Ambassador Seitakynov briefed Mr Batbayar on President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s initiative to establish an International Water Organisation under the auspices of the United Nations. It was noted that such a body would help strengthen international coordination on water-related issues, promote the sustainable use of water resources and develop lasting solutions to global and regional water challenges.
Ahead of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), to be held in Ulaanbaatar from 17 to 28 August 2026, Ambassador Seitakynov invited Mr Batbayar to attend a thematic side event organised by Kazakhstan as part of the conference.
The two sides emphasised the importance of closer cooperation between the relevant government agencies and research institutions of Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain working-level contacts and further develop bilateral cooperation in the water sector.

King Philippe of Belgium to Pay State Visit to Kazakhstan

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan Antonia Katzourou.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of Kazakh-Greek relations, cooperation on multilateral platforms, as well as the schedule of bilateral events planned through the end of the year.
Yerzhan Ashikbayev paid particular attention to energy cooperation. In this context, the parties exchanged views on the situation surrounding the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), which is of strategic importance for the export of Kazakh oil to European markets. They underscored the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted operation of energy infrastructure, secure and sustainable energy supplies to international markets, the safety of ships and the freedom of maritime navigation.
Ambassador Antonia Katzourou reaffirmed the Greek side’s readiness to further develop bilateral cooperation across all areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, transport and humanitarian ties.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to maintain regular political dialogue and continue working to expand Kazakh-Greek partnership across all areas.

Ukraine Agrees to Halt Attacks on CPC - Bloomberg

The United States has persuaded Ukraine to refrain from attacks on oil tankers and infrastructure in the Black Sea that are critical to Kazakhstan’s oil exports, RBC reported, citing Bloomberg.
According to Bloomberg, the agreement was reached following a meeting between senior US administration officials and the Ukrainian leadership. The talks came after a series of attacks on vessels near the marine terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).
Bloomberg also reported that Kyiv has established special contact points through which shipowners can provide information needed to ensure safe passage through the Black Sea.
The CPC plays a key role in Kazakhstan’s oil exports. The pipeline transports oil from Kazakhstan through Russian territory to a marine terminal near Novorossiysk.
The consortium’s shareholders include Kazakh and Russian entities, as well as major international companies, including Chevron and ExxonMobil.

Kazakhstan Discusses Use of Syr Darya and Amu Darya Waters with Neighbouring Countries

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Yeraly Tugzhanov, took part in the 94th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination of Central Asia (ICWC), held in the city of Turkistan.
The meeting brought together heads of water management agencies from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Kyrgyzstan participated as an observer.
The parties discussed the use of water withdrawal quotas and reservoir operating regimes in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya river basins, the introduction of an automated water resources accounting system, as well as the implementation of regional initiatives under the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
Particular attention was given to the CAWEC project, which aims to improve water-use efficiency in Central Asia. World Bank representative Dmitry Petrin outlined the key priorities for the project’s further implementation.
Following the meeting, the parties signed the protocol of the 94th ICWC meeting. The Commission’s next meeting will be held in Turkmenistan.
