On the occasion of Sports Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Belgium organised a cycling ride in Brussels to mark the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Belgium.
Starting from the Atomium - one of Belgium’s most recognisable landmarks and a symbol of progress and the future - participants set off on the route alongside diplomats, members of the Kazakh community and students living in Belgium, as well as Belgian partners and friends of Kazakhstan.
A special guest of the cycling ride was renowned Kazakh cyclist Andrey Kashechkin, a former Astana team rider and Olympian.
Opening the event, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium Roman Vassilenko noted that over the past 34 years, Kazakhstan and Belgium have built a strong partnership based on mutual respect and trust. According to him, cycling symbolically reflects the nature of bilateral relations: moving forward requires balance, momentum and mutual support.
The cycling ride took place in a friendly and informal atmosphere, providing an opportunity to celebrate both Sports Day and the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Another important milestone in bilateral relations is expected this autumn, with a State Visit by His Majesty King Philippe of the Belgians to Kazakhstan planned. The visit will mark an important step in further strengthening the friendship and partnership between the two countries.
