Kazakhstan expects to involve Afghanistan in Coordination Council work - Kazakhstan MFA

Kazakhstan expects to involve the representatives of law enforcement bodies and special services of Afghanistan in the work of the Coordination Council of the chairmen of competent bodies on counteraction to illegal circulation of drugs of CSTO member states, the chairman of the Committee for Struggle against circulation of drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Maratkali Nukenov said in the interview, the agency reports.

Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan expects to involve the representatives of law enforcement bodies and special services of Afghanistan in the work of the Coordination Council of the chairmen of competent bodies on counteraction to illegal circulation of drugs of CSTO member states, the chairman of the Committee for Struggle against circulation of drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Maratkali Nukenov said in the interview, the agency reports.

He reminded that in 2007 manufacture of opium in Afghanistan reached 8200 tons. This year the level is predicted to reach 10 000 tons.

M. Nukenov expressed hope that Uzbekistan participating in the Coordination Council as the observer will become its full member. If all goes all right, I hope the Uzbek party will join the Coordination Council that will have both political and practical value, as Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are a buffer zone between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan," he explained.
