Kazakhstan has chances to become OSCE chairman in 2009 - OSCE/ODIHR chairman

Despite of a number of remarks made by OSCE, following the results of supervision of the parliamentary elections of 2007, Kazakhstan has chances to become OSCE chairman in 2009.

Astana. November 7. Kazakhstan Today - Despite of a number of remarks made by OSCE, following the results of supervision of the parliamentary elections of 2007, Kazakhstan has chances to become OSCE chairman in 2009. The director of OSCE bureau of democratic institutes and human rights Christian Shtrohal said on Tuesday in the interview to journalists, the agency reports.

Any country can become OSCE chairman," C. Shtrohal said.

"For the last 3 years I have supported Kazakhstan candidature for the OSCE chairman post. But the decision is accepted by the OSCE member countries," he added.

"All 56 OSCE member countries should decide and take up in common obligation to allow Kazakhstan to become the chairman of this organization. It is the responsibility of each country, but on the other hand, it is a collective responsibility and the duty of all countries," he said.

As it is known, Kazakhstan put forward its candidature for the post of OSCE chairman in 2009. In the beginning of December of 2007 final decision on consideration of Kazakhstan application will be accepted in Madrid at the session of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the OSCE member countries.
