Kazakhstan presidency in OSCE to strengthen cooperation between Europe and Central Asia - PA OSCE chairman

Astana. June 30. Kazakhstan Today - Presidency of Kazakhstan in Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2010 will allow strengthening cooperation of Europe and Central Asia. The chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly Joran Lennmarker stated during the plenary 17th annual session of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA) on Sunday, the agency reports.

"I am looking forward to Kazakhstan's chairmanship in OSCE in 2010 as it will give a possibility to strengthen cooperation between Europe and Central Asia as well as democracy and transparency in this big and influential country," J. Lennmarker said.

"This assembly and I personally rendered active support to Kazakhstan in its efforts to chair OSCE," he noted.

J. Lennmarker noted that carrying out of the annual session in Astana emphasizes importance of this region for OSCE and the assembly. "Here we are on the crossing of Europe and Asia, in the center of Eurasia, and we should use this opportunity to continue the work on strengthening of our cooperation," PA OSCE chairman said.

He explained that much attention needs to be paid by the organizations to Kazakhstan and OSCE member countries from Central Asia. And they, in turn, need to continue contributing to common efforts on democracy construction and improvement of well-being of their citizens."
