Kazakhstan ratified Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of the Olympic Symbol

The head of state, Nursultan Nazarbayev, signed the law on ratification of the Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of the Olympic Symbol accepted in Nairobi on September 26, 1981, the agency reports citing the president's press service.

Astana. November 10. Kazakhstan Today - The head of state, Nursultan Nazarbayev, signed the law on ratification of the Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of the Olympic Symbol accepted in Nairobi on September 26, 1981, the agency reports citing the president's press service.

As informed earlier, "according to the contract article 1, any state party to this treaty shall be obliged to refuse or to invalidate the registration as a mark and to prohibit by appropriate measures the use, as a mark or other sign, for commercial purposes, of any sign consisting of or containing the Olympic symbol, as defined in the Charter of the International Olympic Committee, except with the authorization of the International Olympic Committee.

The contract is directed at protection of the Olympic symbol against its illegal use as a sign or a mark for commercial purposes.

The agreement was signed in Astana on November 11, 2009.
