Kazakhstan ready to contribute to overcoming global food crisis - Tazhin

Kazakhstan is ready to bring contribution to overcome the global food crisis. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, said during the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

Astana. September 30. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan is ready to bring contribution to overcome the global food crisis. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, said during the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

"Kazakhstan, as well as many other countries, is seriously concerned over the situation in the global market of foodstuffs. We share the opinion of the majority that all countries need to undertake complex approach to overcome current food crisis - all countries need to demonstrate flexibility and to establish close interaction to develop effective mechanisms on strengthening food safety," M. Tazhin said.

"Global price increase for basic food stuffs is nowadays the most serious challenge for the world community. Kazakhstan, as one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of grain and flour, completely satisfies its internal demand and is ready to bring powerful contribution to overcome the global food crisis provided the country has additional investments into agricultural sector and the advanced agricultural technologies," he continued.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reminded that ban on export of grain to the world markets was lifted in the Republic since September 1, 2008. "It is our contribution to the efforts of the international community on restraint of global price increase for grain," he emphasized.
