Kazakhstan representative assumed office of SCO Secretary General

Almaty. January 23. Kazakhstan Today - The ceremony of the assumption of the office of the new Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) took place in Pekin. The Chairman of the secretariat of the organization became the Kazakhstan representative Bolat Nurgaliyev, the agency reports referring to RIA Novosti.

During the ceremony the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Peoples Republic of China Li Zhaoxing said that the government of China is planning on rendering further assistance to the organization and its secretary.

Earlier, the representative of China Zhang Deguan headed SCO. He left the post of the SCO Executive Secretary in the end of 2006, after which the post of the Secretary General has been introduced.

SCO includes: China, Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
