Kazakhstan to hold early presidential elections

Kazakhstan will hold early presidential elections, Kazakhstan Today reports.

Astana. February 2. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan will hold early presidential elections, Kazakhstan Today reports.

The head of state signed today the law on introduction of the addition to the Constitution of Kazakhstan concerning establishment of the constitutional bases for calling and carrying out of early presidential elections of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the president's press service informs.

"The law states: the following addition is to be introduced to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan passed at a republican referendum on August 30, 1995 (report of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, 1996, № 4, article 217; 1998, № 20, article 245; 2007, № 10, article 68): the article 41 is to be complemented with the clause 3-1: the President of the Republic calls early presidential election, which is carried within the period of time established by the constitutional law."

This law will come into force from the date of its first official publication.

As informed earlier, N. Nazarbaev, whose current term expires in 2012, on January 31 rejected a plan to hold a referendum to extend his rule until 2020, saying that he would instead call an early election.
