US State Department Keeps Kazakhstan at Lowest Travel Advisory Level
Tell a friend
Kazakhstan remains at Level 1, the lowest level in the US State Department’s Travel Advisory system. US citizens travelling to the country are advised to exercise normal precautions.
The Travel Advisory system has four levels: Level 1 - Exercise Normal Precautions; Level 2 - Exercise Increased Caution; Level 3 - Reconsider Travel; and Level 4 - Do Not Travel.
Kazakhstan is currently designated Level 1 - "Exercise Normal Precautions". The current advisory was issued on 5 August 2024 following a routine review and has remained unchanged since then.
The State Department recommends that those planning to travel to Kazakhstan enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and make it easier for authorities to contact them in an emergency. US citizens are also advised to monitor State Department updates, review the security report for Kazakhstan and the latest travel health information from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and prepare a contingency plan for emergencies in advance.
Further travel recommendations are available on the US State Department’s website.
For comparison, France, the United Kingdom and Italy are at Level 2, where travellers are advised to exercise increased caution. Russia is at Level 4, the highest level, with the State Department advising US citizens not to travel there.
The Travel Advisory system, however, is not a global ranking of countries by safety. It provides guidance specifically for US citizens planning international travel.

The Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong, Bauyrzhan Dosmanbetov, delivered a welcoming address to the participants, noting the activation of trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong and the increased investment attractiveness of our country for Hong Kong capital in the current year. The Kazakh diplomat emphasized that a significant momentum to the development of relations was provided by the visit of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee, to Kazakhstan, which took place in June of this year. The Hong Kong delegation included more than 70 representatives of large businesses, and 61 agreements were signed for a total amount of over 1.6 billion US dollars, in connection with which the Consul General invited Hong Kong entrepreneurs to further expand their presence in the market of Kazakhstan.
The Deputy Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong, Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, also took part in the work of the forum, emphasizing in his speech the role of Hong Kong as the main "financial gateway" for Chinese companies entering the markets of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Also, Mr. H.Cheung noted that the vast experience of Hong Kong law firms in English law provides a solid legal basis for concluded transactions and the deepening of bilateral partnership.
The presentation of Shaimerden Chikanaev, a partner of the Kazakhstani law firm "Grata International" and an expert in the field of international law, aroused particular interest among the participants. In his report, he familiarized the participants with the specifics of the legal regulation of entrepreneurial activity in Kazakhstan, as well as with the mechanisms for protecting the rights of investors.
It is necessary to note that the Forum demonstrated the interest of Hong Kong business circles in expanding their presence in the Kazakhstani market not only in financial and economic activities, but also in the legal sphere. Following the meetings, the participants expressed their desire to build a system of legal support for the development of large-scale investment interaction between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.
