Kyrgyzstan referendum did not meet international obligations of the country - US embassy

"We noted limited progress demonstrated by Kyrgyzstan on October 21 during the referendum on the Constitution and the Code on Elections, in particular, how the Central commission for elections and carrying out of referendum prepared polling districts and the necessary materials," the document states.

"Local observers were authorized to conduct supervision over the course of voting. However, we share concern of OSCE in connection with infringements," the statement informs.

As it was informed earlier, the national referendum on adoption of the new Constitution and the Code on Elections proposed by the President of the country was held on Sunday in Kyrgyzstan.

According to Central Electoral Commission of Kyrgyzstan, 75.04 % of voters or 1 million 851 thousand 915 people voted for the new edition of the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan.

3.69 % of the citizens voted against. 1 million 861 thousand 440 voters or 75.45 % out of the general number of full age citizens of the Republic voted for the new edition of the Code on Elections, against - about 3 %.

More than 80 % of the residents of the Republic participated in the referendum.
