Majilis adopted amendments to AIDS law

Astana. May 3. Kazakhstan Today - Today at the plenary session Majilis deputies adopted the bill "On amendments and additions to Kazakhstan law "On AIDS preventive measures," the agency reports from Astana.

Introduced amendments brought into accord the law with the international standards stipulated by the Declaration on adherence to the struggle with HIV/AIDS, adopted at the special session on HIV/AIDS of the General Assembly of the United Nations 25-27, July, 2001.

In particular, the amendments to the law exclude the norm of expelling of HIV-infected foreign citizens from the country. The bill provides fuller implementation of constitutional rights of the citizens of the Republic on health protection.

Majilis Committee on welfare development emphasized that introduced amendments and additions "will allow advancing the national legislation to the norms of the international documents directed at the solution of HIV/AIDS problem on the country scale and decrease of HIV-infection distribution rate".

The bill has been forwarded to the Senate.
