Majilis adopted ratification of nonproliferation treaty of nuclear weapons protocol

Astana. December 27. Kazakhstan Today - Today at the plenary session Majilis deputies adopted the bill On ratification of the additional protocol to the Agreement between the Republic Kazakhstan and the International Agency on Atomic Energy regarding application of the guarantees in connection with the Nonproliferation treaty of nuclear weapons," the agency reports.

"The purpose of signing the report is maintenance of transparency of nuclear activity in the Republic, assistance to strengthening of the system of the international safety, strengthening of the status of our country as the denuclearized state, demonstration of stability of the policy of Kazakhstan in the field of non-distribution of the nuclear weapon regime," Majilis committee on international affairs, defense and safety resolution.

"Signing the report is consecutive continuation of the policy of the Republic Kazakhstan to maintain the measures of non-distribution of nuclear weapons," the document emphasized.

The protocol was signed on February 6, 2004 in Vienna.

The bill has been directed to the Senate.
