Mass media bill to be introduced as deputy legislative initiative – Asar leader

Astana. April 26. Kazakhstan Today - "If the government hesitates to introduce mass media bill into the Parliament, it will be introduced as the deputy legislative initiative". Asar leader Dariga Nazarbayeva stated today at the briefing during the break of the State commission session regarding development and concrete definition of democratic reforms in Kazakhstan, the agency correspondent reports.

The party chairman informed "during mass media bill development process everyone’s opinion, including political parties and journalistic organizations, was taken into account.

According to the developed bill, "monopolization of mass media is forbidden; the term of limitation of actions has been reduced to one year". "The important point is decriminalization of slander and insult," the party leader states. "Journalists accused of slander and insult of honor and dignity bears criminal liability," she explained.

As it was informed earlier, the leader of Asar party made a proposal to introduce mass media bill to the Parliament in June, 2006. The bill has been prepared by the journalistic of nongovernmental organizations and undergone domestic and foreign examination. It was discussed at the session of the National commission concerning democratization and development of civil society and approved for further consideration.
