NATO's New Strategic Concept confirmed in Lisbon

The NATO's New Strategic Concept was confirmed on Friday at the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Lisbon, the agency reports citing ITAR-TASS.

Almaty. November 22. Kazakhstan Today - The NATO's New Strategic Concept was confirmed on Friday at the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Lisbon, the agency reports citing ITAR-TASS.

The concept states that cooperation of Russia and the NATO "plays a strategic role as it promotes creation of the general space of peace, stability, and security." The doctrine has proclaimed the termination of an epoch of opposition. "The NATO does not pose a threat for Russia. On the contrary, we want to see real strategic partnership between the NATO and Russia and we will operate accordingly, expecting reciprocity from Russia."

The leaders of the alliance have underlined that the existing disagreements should not hinder development of constructive cooperation with Russia. "Despite of disagreements on some issues, we are convinced that security, the NATO, and Russia are closely bound and that strong and constructive partnership based on mutual trust, transparency and predictability can serve in the best interests to our security."
