Nazarbayev was against constitutional amendment allowing running for post unlimited quantity of times

Ust-Kamenogorsk. June 15. Kazakhstan Today - The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev was against the introduction of the amendment into the Constitution allowing him to run for the post of the president unlimited number of times, the agency reports.

"I did not make those proposals to the Parliament. I was against it," N. Nazarbayev said answering today the journalists' questions at the press conference in Ust Kamenogorsk. "On the contrary, I reduced the term of presidency from seven till five years and made the proposal not to exceed two terms," the President added.

According to the President, he did not veto the amendment because the majority of deputies voted for it. "I had an intention... to use my right to veto but when I saw that 90 % of deputies voted for it (veto is overridden by two thirds of votes) it was useless," N. Nazarbayev explained.
