Pakistan plans to become full SCO member

Pakistan intends to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and to take active part in the work of this organization, the agency reports citing the Pakistan edition Thaindian News, which cites the Pesident of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.

Kazakhstan Today - Pakistan intends to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and to take active part in the work of this organization, the agency reports citing the Pakistan edition Thaindian News which cites the Pesident of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan,Vladimir Norov, at the meeting with the President Zardari said that Pakistan wishes to receive a full membership in SCO, the intergovernmental security organization, founded in 2001 in Shanghai.

"Pakistan would like to get support of Uzbekistan in this question," Asif Ali Zardari said.

He also said that Pakistan, being the key player in global struggle against terrorism, is ready to be the participant of the regional antiterrorist structure SCO.

The President of Pakistan during the talk with V. Norov underlined that Uzbekistan, "being the nearest neighbor of Afghanistan, promotes peace and stability and participates in construction of a transport and energy corridor that, in turn, will strengthen the economic stability and peace in the region."

The representatives of security bodies of the SCO countries will gather today in Tashkent. The session participants of regional antiterrorist structure will discuss coordination of measures of special services and the law enforcement bodies of the SCO member countries in counteraction to terrorism, extremism, and separatism.
