Parliament ratified Nakhichevan Treaty to create cooperation council of Turkic-speaking states

The deputies of the Senate of Parliament of Kazakhstan at a plenary session today passed the bill on ratification of the Nakhichevan Treaty to establish a cooperation council of Turkic-speaking states, the agency reports.

Astana. September 9. Kazakhstan Today - The deputies of the Senate of Parliament of Kazakhstan at a plenary session today passed the bill on ratification of the Nakhichevan Treaty to establish a cooperation council of Turkic-speaking states, the agency reports.

According to Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Ermekbaev, "the purpose of this agreement is creation of a legal basis for strengthening and unlocking a huge potential of good neighborhood, solidarity, and cooperation of the Turkic-speaking states and their people."

Nurlan Ermekbaev informed that the agreement was inked within the IX summit of heads of the Turkic-speaking states in Nakhichevan on October 3, 2009.

According to Vice Minister, the agreement will also lead to the establishment of several other councils and will create a consultancy mechanism with a Secretariat to be established in Istanbul. The Secretariat will have its own budget, which will be formed according to a different international agreement, which will be signed later.

"Turkey expressed willingness to finance the Secretariat within first three years."
