President gave official start to the Astana Day celebrations

President congratulated people on the Astana Day. After that a solemn ceremony of handing of officers' epaulettes to the best graduates of higher educational institutions was held.

Astana. July 6. Kazakhstan Today - President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev by raising the national flag at ethno-memorial complex Atameken gave the official start the Astana Day celebrations on July 5, Kazakhstan Today reports.

"20 years ago, on June 4, 1994, I signed a decree on the national flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan, from that day our flag became the most important attribute of our independence. Today, the tradition of recent years, on the eve of the main, one of the most important and most beautiful festivals of our country - day of our city, we raise the flag. And in the day we hand straps the best graduates of military educational institutions of the republic", President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

President congratulated people on the Astana Day. After that a solemn ceremony of handing of officers' epaulettes to the best graduates of higher educational institutions was held. From the hands of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Nursultan Nazarbayev officer's insignia were handed over to graduates of the Military Institute of the Army, the Military Engineering Institute of Radio Electronics and Communications, Military Institute of the internal troops, the Kokchetav Technical Institute of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, Academy of Frontier Service of the National Security Committee. For the first time parents of soldiers were invited to the ceremony, according to official media.

The opening ceremony completed the passage of the mouth guard of honor of the Republican Guard, the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.

In accordance with amendments to the law "On Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan", as amended in 2008, the Capital Day, celebrated on July 6, is a public holiday. Astana received its current name and became the capital of Kazakhstan in 1998.

On Friday, the celebration of Astana Day begins with the festivals. During the day, a rich program of events is planned culminating in a gala concert on the square in front of the monument Kazak Eli.
