President of Tajikistan cancelled negotiations with Medvedev

The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has cancelled his visit to Moscow and the negotiations with the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, the agency reports citing Kommersant.

Almaty. February 3. Kazakhstan Today - The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has cancelled his visit to Moscow and the negotiations with the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, the agency reports citing Kommersant.

"The aggravating contradictions between the Russian Federation and Tajikistan have poured out into a new loud scandal. The Tajik leader, E. Rahmon, has cancelled his visit to Moscow and the negotiation scheduled for today with the President of the Russian Federation, D. Medvedev, and has refused to participate in the summits of CSTO and EurAsEC planned on Wednesday... Moscow, up to the last moment,tried to persuade E. Rahmon to reconsider this decision. However, the President of Tajikistan stayed home, having justified it by the energy crisis in Tajikistan," the edition informs.

"The Russian party, till the last moment, tried to influence the Tajik President's decision. However, all the attempts have been in vain. Though, right now the voice of Tajikistan is extremely important for Russia, first of all, at the CSTO session, where its participants will decide on establishment of CSTO collective rapid reaction forces," the newspaper informs.

As informed earlier, on January, 26th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan handed over the note to the charge d'affaires ad interim in affairs of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tajikistan, Vyacheslav Svetlichny, on occasion of the statement of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, made in Tashkent about construction of hydropower objects in the states located in the Upper of Syr-Darya and Amu Darya.
