Presidential elections in Azerbaijan to be democratic - chairman of president's administration

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan in 2008 will be democratic. The chairman of the president's administration of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mehtiyev said at the press conference, the agency reports.

Baku. November 22. Kazakhstan Today - Presidential elections in Azerbaijan in 2008 will be democratic. The chairman of the president's administration of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mehtiyev said at the press conference, the agency reports.

"I consider that elections in Azerbaijan will be democratic. We would like the representatives of all authorities will be the candidates in this elections, but we consider that the authority of the President of Azerbaijan is very high and there are no doubts that he will be elected again," R. Mehtiyev said.

He also expressed satisfaction with the course of preparation of the party in power Eni Azerbaijan (New Azerbaijan) for the presidential elections. "The authorities of Azerbaijan wish the presidential elections would pass in democratic conditions and we would nominate for the post of the leader of the state Ilham Aliyev," R. Mehtiyev stated.

As it was informed earlier, parliamentary elections taken place in November 2005 in Azerbaijan the mission of observers of CIS recognized corresponding to the norms of the elective legislation and held in conditions of democracy. While OSCE mission regarded those elections as "not corresponding to the international standards."
