Almaty. September 21. Kazakhstan Today - Presidential elections of Uzbekistan will take place on December 23, 2007. According to the Constitution of the Republic, the term of the current President of the country Islam Karimov has ended. The representatives of the Central Election Commission stated at the press conference in Tashkent, the agency reports referring to Habar telechannel.

"Presidential elections of the country for the citizens of Uzbekistan - very important political event. Therefore, I hope that all people will take active part in the elections. It will be big examination defining the future of the country," the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of Uzbekistan Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalamov said.

According to the official data, the number of voters in Uzbekistan exceeds 16 million people. The candidate for the post of the leader of the state for registration should receive signatures of at least 5 % of electorate, that is 800 thousand people. Registration of the candidates is made 65 days prior to elections. Therefore, the names of the candidates for the president's post are unknown yet.

According to the Central Electoral Commission of Uzbekistan, the district election commissions in the country should be formed till October 14 and divisional - not later than November 13. All political parties and social movements of the country can put forward their candidate for the president's post.
