Prime Minister approved feasibility report of construction of Balhash thermal power station

Astana. July 10. Kazakhstan Today - The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov held the meeting concerning construction of Balhash thermal power station (BTPS), the agency reports referring to prime minister's press service.

According to the press service, during the meeting technical aspects of construction of BTPS and presentation of the feasibility report of the project have been considered and discussed.

The Prime Minister approved the presented feasibility report and charged the chairman of the board of JSC Company Holding Samruk Kanat Bozumbayev to continue work on preparation of international tender on attraction of strategic partners for realization of the project.

As it was informed earlier, realization of the project is directed at solution of the problem of electro supply of the southern regions of the country and increase of reliability of the work of uniform electro power system of Kazakhstan.

According to the project, established capacity of the station makes 2640 MBT. Technical resolution - installation of two modules with capacity of 1320 MBT.

The first module of Balhash thermal power station of capacity of 1320 MBT will be put into operation in 2013. It was informed on June 16 at exit session of the interdepartmental working group on the project - Construction of Balhash thermal power station headed by Vice Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan, vice chairman of the interdepartmental working group Duysenbay Turganov.

"We should start the first block by 2013. These are two power units of 660 MBT. The main construction is expected in 2009 - 2011. The second turn will be put into operation in 2010," the chairman of the board of JSC Company Samruk Energo Yerlan Upushev noted.

Cost of construction will total $4 billion 700 million.
