Russian analysts assessed Medvedev's visit to Astana as successful

The results of the first foreign visit of the new President of Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev to Astana received wide resonance in the Russian political, expert circles and mass media. They estimated the visit as successful, the agency reports referring to Kazakhstan president's press service.

They estimated the visit as successful, the agency reports referring to Kazakhstan president's press service.

Most Russian experts consider that the choice of Kazakhstan as the first country of the visit of D. Medvedev demonstrated a number of significant moments of foreign-policy strategy of the Kremlin in CIS for the nearest prospect.

At first, Moscow confirmed the succession of former course of development of good-neighborly relations and cooperation with Kazakhstan.

According to the Russian Center for Political Technologies, the "choice of Kazakhstan demonstrates attention to CIS countries and that Kazakhstan is the most comfortable partner for Russia."

Secondly, Russian leadership at this stage considers Kazakhstan as the main strategic partner in Central Asia and in CIS as a whole. "The analysts note leading positions of our country in the region in regards to the rates of economic development and scales of socio-economic reforms. They note that Kazakhstan and Russia have a lot of joint economic projects intended for long-term prospects," Kazakhstan president's press service emphasizes.

Thirdly, according to the estimations, the visit of the President of Russia to Kazakhstan demonstrates intention of Moscow to realize more dynamic strategy in the region.

Its essence is in opposing to attempts of other global players in Central Asia to "gain support" of the states of the region by advancing perspective projects able to have influence on more speed-up socio-economic development of these countries.

"On the whole, Russian business, political communities, and the majority of expert community estimated the visit of D. Medvedev to Astana as successful. The leaders of Kazakhstan and Russia intend to continue regular trustful contacts and to consistently solve all the questions of bilateral relations on the basis of the principles of alliance and strategic partnership," the president's press service reports.
