Madrid. November 30. Kazakhstan Today - The Russian Foreign Minister hopes for positive decision concerning application of Kazakhstan for OSCE presidency in 2009. He stated in his report at the Foreign Ministers Council session of OSCE member states in Madrid, the agency reports.

"We hope that common sense will prevail and today we will elect Kazakhstan the OSCE chairman," S. Lavrov said during the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OSCE member states in Madrid.

In S. Lavrov's opinion, a number of OSCE countries tries to apply the policy of double standards in regards to Kazakhstan.

"First, this is the attempt to break the principle of equality of OSCE member countries.

"Our Kazakhstan colleagues have been forced to prove their suitability. A similar double standard is unacceptable," S. Lavrov explained.
