Second stage of CSTO exercises Rubezh-2008 taking place in Moscow

The second stage of joint command-and-staff exercises of the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Rubezh-2008 is taking place in Moscow in CSTO Joint Staff, the agency reports referring to RIA Novosti.

Almaty. July 30. Kazakhstan Today - The second stage of joint command-and-staff exercises of the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Rubezh-2008 is taking place in Moscow in CSTO Joint Staff, the agency reports referring to RIA Novosti.

"The second stage of exercises aims at development of operation of rendering military and military-technical help to CSTO member states in case of acts of aggression," CSTO Assistant Secretary General, Valery Semerikov, said.

Rubezh-2008 was held in the summer of 2008 in four stages and for the first time in CSTO history is carried out at three levels: strategic, operative and tactical covering all regions of collective security.

As it was informed earlier, the exercises have been conducted on the territory of Armenia and Russia. About 4 thousand military officials from Armenia, the Russian Federation and Tajikistan will take part in them. Other CSTO member states will be represented by military staff from the Ministries of Defense.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization, created in May, 1992, includes seven states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
