Slovakian diplomat appointed chairman of UN Center for preventive diplomacy in Central Asia

The diplomat from Slovakia has been appointed the chairman of the UN center for preventive diplomacy in Central Asia (CA), the agency reports referring to the UN press center.

Almaty. April 30. Kazakhstan Today - The diplomat from Slovakia has been appointed the chairman of the UN center for preventive diplomacy in Central Asia (CA), the agency reports referring to the UN press center.

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon appointed Miroslav Yienchu the special representative and the chairman of the UN regional center for preventive diplomacy in CA on April 29, which was opened in Ashkhabad (Turkmenistan) in December, 2007. The UN center in Ashkhabad became the first among five regional representations that the department for Political Issues of the UN secretariat plans to open in the near future.

The UN Center in Central Asia is called to assist the governments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in escalating potential for peaceful resolution of disputes and prevention of conflicts through dialogues and international support. The center will closely cooperate with the regional organizations and will become an arena for strengthening of their interaction in the interests of Central Asian people, world and stability in the region.

The small group of the international employees of the United Nations has already started work. $2.3 million has been allocated to finance its work. Miroslav will be the chairman of the center. Prior to the appointment he worked as the chairman of the secretariat of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Slovakia.
