Struggle against drug addiction program of 2006 - 2008 - inefficient

Realization of the program of struggle against drug addiction and drug business of 2006 - 2008 in Kazakhstan has been considered inefficient, the agency reports citing press service the Accounting Committee of control over execution of the republican budget.

Astana. January 20. Kazakhstan Today - Realization of the program of struggle against drug addiction and drug business of 2006 - 2008 in Kazakhstan has been considered inefficient, the agency reports citing press service the Accounting Committee of control over execution of the republican budget.

"There were not any significant improvement of the situation with struggle against drug addiction and drug business after an increase of expenses of the republican budget from 1.2 billion KZT in 2003 - 2005 up to 1.8 billion KZT in 2006 - 2008. According to the statistical data, 53 577 drug addicts have been registered, as of for January 1, 2006. As of January 1, 2009, this number has increased up to 54 669 people. In 2008 in comparison with 2007, the quantity of crimes in the sphere of counteraction to drug trafficking has decreased from 10 502 to 10 065."

According to the press service, "the Committee for Struggle against Drug Addiction and Control over Drug Trafficking of the Ministry of Internal Affairs does not take measures on improvement of planning, management, organization of the program events. There is no effective interaction of the state structures responsible for realization of the program.
