Tokayev Attends World Artificial Intelligence Conference in China

The World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) has opened in Shanghai under the theme "Global Solidarity in the AI Era." Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed the opening ceremony, the presidential press service, Akorda, said.
"Today, more than half of the world's artificial intelligence researchers are based in China. Chinese innovators account for the largest number of AI patents globally, while the country's dynamic innovation ecosystem continues to achieve rapid breakthroughs across a wide range of advanced technologies," Tokayev said.
The president expressed support for the conference's guiding concept of "AI for Good, AI for All."
"We believe these principles should form the foundation of our collective efforts to ensure that technological progress serves the common good. I am convinced that the future belongs to those who are able to work closely together and build strong partnerships based on mutual trust and shared interests. In this context, President Xi Jinping's vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind is of particular importance. Kazakhstan highly values this far-sighted initiative and believes it has gained even greater relevance in the era of artificial intelligence," Tokayev said.

Kazakhstani Students in Finland Briefed on Upcoming Elections and Political Reforms

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Finland Azamat Abdraimov held a meeting with Kazakhstani students pursuing their studies in Finland. During the meeting, Ambassador briefed the students on the large-scale political reforms being implemented in Kazakhstan at the initiative of the Head of State.
Particular attention was given to the upcoming elections to the Kurultai. The Ambassador provided the young Kazakhstani citizens with detailed information on the voting procedures and emphasised the importance of active and informed participation of the younger generation in the country’s social and political life.
The Kazakh diplomat also stressed the importance of obtaining a high-quality education and putting acquired knowledge and skills into practical use. The students were encouraged to comply with and respect the laws, social norms and traditions of their host country.
The meeting also addressed current issues of particular interest to Kazakhstani students, as well as the Embassy’s upcoming events and activities. The participants actively exchanged views and proposals on a range of topical issues.

New Russian Consul General Appointed in Ust-Kamenogorsk

Mikhail Korolev has been appointed Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ust-Kamenogorsk, according to the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Korolev graduated from the Altai Polytechnic Institute and has served in the diplomatic service since 1999.
He previously served as head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s regional office and its representative in Barnaul, as well as Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan.
Since 2022, Korolev has served as head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s regional office and its representative in Barnaul.

Kazakhstan, US Discuss Energy, Technology and Investment Cooperation

Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur discussed prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States in energy, technology and investment, according to the press service of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry.
"During the meeting, the sides discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as prospects for further strengthening the enhanced strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the United States," the ministry said in a statement.
Kosherbayev briefed his US counterpart on the political and socio-economic reforms under way in Kazakhstan, stressing that the country had entered a new stage of its development. In this context, the sides noted that the upcoming Kurultai elections on 23 August would mark an important step in the practical implementation of the new constitutional model.
The US side, in turn, reaffirmed its interest in further strengthening cooperation and noted significant potential for expanding practical engagement in energy, critical minerals, advanced technologies, digitalisation, transport and investment.
The meeting also focused on Kazakhstan’s initiative to strengthen the global architecture for water governance, including President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s proposal to establish an International Water Organization as a specialised UN agency.
The two sides also exchanged views on preparations for the G20 summit, scheduled to take place in Miami in December 2026, which the Kazakh president is expected to attend at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.
In this regard, the sides expressed their readiness to continue working together to develop a substantive agenda for discussions at the highest level.

South Korean President Thanks Tokayev for Assistance in Detaining Fraud Suspects

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung thanked Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for assistance in detaining and repatriating South Korean nationals suspected of involvement in voice phishing operations in Kazakhstan, the South Korean leader said in a post on X.
According to Lee, members of an organized criminal group from South Korea secretly entered Kazakhstan via Cambodia and Vietnam and engaged in voice phishing.
The suspects were detained in Kazakhstan and repatriated to South Korea two weeks later. An investigation is ongoing in South Korea.
Lee said the suspects were swiftly detained and returned home thanks to the "active support and cooperation" of President Tokayev and Kazakhstan's National Security Committee (KNB).
"We express our sincere gratitude to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and all those involved," the South Korean president wrote.
Lee also expressed hope that he would be able to thank Tokayev in person at the Republic of Korea-Central Asia Summit, which he said is scheduled to take place next month.
Earlier, officials in Astana discussed preparations for the first Central Asia-Republic of Korea Summit.

Key Political Changes and Electoral Process in Kazakhstan Presented in Israel

The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the State of Israel held an information and outreach meeting with representatives of the Israeli media and expert community, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
The meeting was organized ahead of the elections to the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scheduled for 23 August 2026, and focused on informing the Israeli public about the key political and institutional changes currently taking place in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, participants were briefed on the key provisions of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, entering into force on 1 July 2026.
Particular attention was given to the reform of the system of state governance, the transition to a unicameral parliament - the Kurultai, new principles for the formation of representative bodies, as well as the role of political parties and civil society within the renewed political system.
A separate part of the meeting was devoted to the upcoming elections. Participants were provided with information on the electoral procedures, the participation of political parties and candidates, and the main stages of the electoral process.
The meeting was followed by an open exchange of views. Representatives of the Israeli media and expert community expressed particular interest in the practical implementation of the constitutional reform, the functioning of the new model of state governance, the role of political parties, as well as Kazakhstan’s further political and socio-economic development.
Participants had an opportunity to raise questions and receive relevant clarifications regarding the ongoing reforms and the forthcoming electoral process.
The meeting served as an important platform for direct dialogue between the Embassy of Kazakhstan and Israel’s media and expert community, contributing to the promotion of objective and comprehensive information about Kazakhstan and its ongoing political transformation.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan will continue its engagement with Israeli media representatives and experts through thematic briefings and meetings dedicated to current developments in Kazakhstan’s political, socio-economic and public life.

Azerbaijan's CEC chief to observe Kazakhstan's Kurultai elections

Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairman Mazahir Panahov will take part in the international observation mission for Kazakhstan's elections to the Kurultai, a correspondent for the agency reports.
In particular, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) observation mission will include the organization's Secretary General Ramil Hasan and Farhad Mammadov, head of the South Caucasus Research Center, Kazinform International News Agency reported.
In addition, Azerbaijani MP Gulshan Pashayeva will participate in the election observation mission of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
International observers will assess the preparation and conduct of the vote in accordance with the mandates of their respective organizations and international standards.
As previously reported, Kazakhstan will hold elections to the first composition of the Kurultai on Aug. 23. The election campaign will continue through Aug. 22.

Kazakhstan strengthens multilateral cooperation with the UN and SCO

Kazakhstan continues to strengthen multilateral cooperation by expanding its engagement with the United Nations (UN) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported.
In particular, Kazakhstan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Yerzhan Kazykhan, held talks with Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva Tatiana Valovaya. The parties discussed key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN, current issues on the multilateral agenda, as well as Kazakhstan's initiatives aimed at strengthening international cooperation.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Isagaliyev met with Kyrgyz Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kudaibergen Bazarbayev. During the meeting, the two sides discussed current issues in Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations, as well as prospects for further developing cooperation within multilateral platforms.
In addition, Kazakhstan's Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Isetov received copies of the credentials of Lyubomir Regak, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Kazakhstan. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of Kazakh-Slovak cooperation, highlighting the high level of political dialogue and their mutual interest in further expanding trade and economic ties, as well as implementing previously reached agreements.

Kazakhstan, China Discuss Regional and International Agenda

Kazakhstan's First Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev and Chinese Ambassador Han Chunlin discussed the development of bilateral cooperation as well as regional and international issues, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.
The two sides reviewed current issues of Kazakhstan-China cooperation in multilateral formats and exchanged views on key international developments.
Ashikbayev placed particular emphasis on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, noting that 2026 marks several important anniversaries in this field.
Aug. 29 will mark the 35th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, while Sept. 8 will mark 20 years since the signing of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia. Sept. 24 will mark the 30th anniversary of the opening for signature of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).
The Chinese ambassador reaffirmed Beijing's readiness to continue cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, the two sides agreed to maintain regular political dialogue and continue efforts to expand the Kazakhstan-China partnership.
