Turkmenistan President to visit Turkey in March

The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov plans to pay state visit to Turkey in March to discuss with the Turkish party the questions of cooperation expansion, the press service of the leader of Turkmenistan informed the agency.

Ashkhabad. February 19. Kazakhstan Today - The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov plans to pay state visit to Turkey in March to discuss with the Turkish party the questions of cooperation expansion, the press service of the leader of Turkmenistan informed the agency.

According to the press service, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov received the invitation to visit Ankara in December of 2007 from his Turkish counterpart Abdulla Gyul when he was visiting Turkmenistan. The parties signed the joint communique and the intergovernmental agreement on creation of the Turkmen-Turkish commission on economic cooperation. The leaders of two states agreed to hold regular meetings not less often than once a year.

The main aspect of coopeartion of two countries, according to the press service, deliveries of Turkmen energy resources through the territory of Turkey. The Turkish authorities consider a possibility of transportation of Turkmen gas along two routes: through the territory of Iran and Trans Caspian gas pipe line.

According to the press service of the Turkmenistan President, foreign trade turnover of Turkey occupies the 4th place in export and the 1st place in import. As of 2007, commodity turnover between two countries, by preliminary estimations, made $1.2 billion.
