UN passed resolution initiated by Kazakhstan on Semipalatinsk region

The UN General Assembly has unanimously accepted the resolution initiated by Kazakhstan 'International Cooperation and Coordination of Activities to Rehabilitate Semipalatinsk Region in Kazakhstan.' The official representative the Ministries for Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, informed during the briefing on Monday, the agency reports.

Kazakhstan Today - The UN General Assembly has unanimously accepted the resolution initiated by Kazakhstan 'International Cooperation and Coordination of Activities to Rehabilitate Semipalatinsk Region in Kazakhstan.' The official representative the Ministries for Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, informed during the briefing on Monday, the agency reports.

According to the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the co-authors of the resolution are 69 countries, including all CIS countries. The document emphasizes an important role of the government of Kazakhstan in allocation of resources and underlines the necessity to grant modern technologies for minimization of radiological, social, economic, and the environmental problems connected with health of the population in Semipalatinsk region.

The resolution calls upon the international community to help Kazakhstan in realization of the special programs and treatment projects and in efforts on maintenance of economic growth and sustainable development of Semipalatinsk region.
