Almaty. February 10. Kazakhstan Today - Special Rapporteur on Torture Manfred Novak recognizes progress in the field of human rights in Kazakhstan, the agency reports citing electronic edition AjaxWorld.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Manfred Novak, Co-Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights (Austria) noted some progress in Kazakhstan in regards to observance of human rights. Kazakhstan has been prepared "for the present role of the chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)." It also means that the situation with human rights should be improved," M. Novak said at the meeting with the Austrian news agency on Tuesday. M. Novak, in March, will present the report on Kazakhstan in the UN Committee for Human Rights in Geneva.

"There are no regular tortures - the situation better than in other CIS countries," he said.
