UNESCAP to introduce changes to increase its efficiency - Kazakh FM

Almaty. May 17. Kazakhstan Today - The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) should introduce changes focused on increase of its efficiency and effectiveness. The Kazakhstan Minister for Foreign Affairs Marat Tazhin said today at the session of the senior officials during the 63rd ESCAP session, the agency reports.

"The objective becomes more actual in the context of the actions realized following the results of the World Summit of the United Nations of 2005," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.

He emphasized that ESCAP plays an important role in the activity of the organization. "The commission carries out the role of the regional promoter of the objectives and principles of the UN Charter and the disseminator of information regarding the organization's activity," M. Tazhin noted. According to the Minister, "the major ESCAP mission consists in further expansion of the regional and sub regional cooperation and assistance rendering aiming at further development of the states of the Asian-Pacific region.
