USA, Kyrgyzstan signed prolongation agreement of Manas airbase

The USA and Kyrgyzstan signed the prolongation agreement of the Manas airbase for another year. The U.S Department of State press service confirmed the information on Thursday, the agency reports citing ITAR-TASS.

Almaty. September 10. Kazakhstan Today - The USA and Kyrgyzstan signed the prolongation agreement of the Manas airbase for another year. The U.S Department of State press service confirmed the information on Thursday, the agency reports citing ITAR-TASS.

The contract of the American military base Manas at Bishkek's international airport, now called the Manas Transit Center, has been prolonged for another year.

The American foreign policy department informed the contract was renewed in July.

The governments of the USA and Kyrgyzstan signed the lease in July, 2009 for 5 years. Nevertheless, "the contract should be renewed every year." The contract was renewed for the first time only in the middle of this summer. Washington "has agreed to pay $60 million a year to the government of Kyrgyzstan as a compensation for the financial and technical support of the Transit Center at Manas."
