Zhoao Soaresh elected OSCE PA new chairman

Portuguese, Zhoao Soaresh, has been elected OSCE PA new chairman. OSCE PA members accepted the decision today during the 17th annual session of the Assembly in Astana, the agency reports.

Astana. July 4. Kazakhstan Today - Portuguese, Zhoao Soaresh, has been elected OSCE PA new chairman. OSCE PA members accepted the decision during the 17th annual session of the Assembly in Astana on Thursday, the agency reports.

"OSCE has played a very important role in construction of new Europe, new Central Asia, and the Caucasian region. We wish to improve the work in both directions to the East and to the West from Vienna. We are carrying out supervision on the Balkans and intend to send our observers to the elections in the USA," Z. Soaresh said during the press conference.

"I share the opinion of the previous chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly Joran Lennmarker that we should not "freeze" military conflicts, but control and resolve them," OSCE PA newly elected chairman said.

"We understand that we need to expand our activity in Central Asia and we intend to do so if it is possible," he said.
