62 % of maternal deaths resulted from wrong organization of obstetrical help

The Minister of Health, Zhaksylyk Doskaliev, at the session of the department said 62 % of maternal deaths in Kazakhstan in 2008 have been caused due to wrong organization of obstetrical help.

Astana. January 30. Kazakhstan Today - The Minister of Health, Zhaksylyk Doskaliev, at the session of the department said 62 % of maternal mortality rate in Kazakhstan in 2008 has been caused due to wrong organization of obstetrical help.

"The overwhelming number of maternal mortality cases could have been prevented if the medical help had been organized right. Apparently, 62 % of maternal deaths have resulted from the wrong organization of obstetrical help," the Health Minister informed.

Z. Doskaliev has noted that parameters of maternal and infant mortality rate are one of the basic indicators defining a place of the country in world competitiveness rating.

"Therefore, we have created the republican and regional staffs to radically improve the situation, to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate in the country," the Minister of Health informed. He said that maternal mortality rate in Kazakhstan last year decreased by 34 %.
