A monument to the founder of energy science in Kazakhstan was installed in Almaty

Almaty. 24 August. Kazakhstan Today - The unveiling of a monument to the energy scientist, the founder of the energy science of the country, doctor of technical sciences, professor, academician Shafik Chokin took place at the Kazakh Research Institute of Energy named after Sh. Chokin within the framework of Rukhani Zhangyru Program, Kazakhstan Today reports.

As it was noted in the Press Service of the Mayor Administration, the event is coincided with the 105th anniversary of the birth of the academician.

Shafik Chokin was the author of 500 scientific works devoted to the development of power industry of the Kazakhstan: The Power Industry of Kazakhstan, Scientific Foundations of Energy Supply of Kazakhstan, Basic Energy Development in Kazakhstan, Energy and Water Economy of Kazakhstan, The Fuel and Energy Balance of Kazakhstan, and etc.

In 1996, Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan awarded Academician Shafik Chokin the highest degree of distinction - the title of Halyk Kakharmany.

In his speech, Bauyrzhan Baibek, the Mayor of Almaty noted that due to his progressive, scientific applications, Shafik Chokin was the mover of modernization of the public consciousness of his time.

"He was the first director of the Kazakh Energy Research Institute. During the period of management of Academician Chokin, the institute became one of the largest and most progressive scientific institutions of the energy profile in the country - with unique experimental bases, many of which had no analogues in the world. The key scientific discoveries in the field of energy in Kazakhstan related to this institute. With the direct involvement of Shafik Chokin, an integrated system of scientific and technical forecasting of the power industry of Kazakhstan was developed, projects of Irtysh-Karaganda channel, Kapshagai hydroelectric station", the mayor of Almaty noted.

Earlier, the Mayor of Almaty city announced an open tender for the best design of the monument to Sh. Chokin. In accordance with the decision of the State Commission on Monuments and Memorials constructed in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the best work was recognized a project, the authors of which became K. Zharylgapov and M. Azmagambetov.

The son of academician Kanat Chokin, the president of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan Murat Zhurinov, the president of the Kazakh Energy Research Institute Kalyk Abdullayev, the chairman of the Public Council of Almaty Rakhman Alshanov, the deputy of the local representative body of Almaty Nurlan Mukhamed-Rakhimov, the national writer of the Republic of Kazakhstan Beksultan Nurzhekeyev, employees of the research institute and other took part in the ceremonial event.
