Almaty Region Hosts Kymyzmuryndyk 2026 Cultural Festival

The Kymyzmuryndyk 2026 cultural and ethnographic festival has begun at the Karkara summer pasture in the Kegen district of Kazakhstan’s Almaty Region, according to the regional administration.

This year's event is being held for the fifth time and is dedicated to the 368th anniversary of Almerek Zhanshykuly.

According to the regional authorities, the festival has attracted visitors from across Kazakhstan as well as from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan. Organisers expect around 35,000 visitors.

More than 100 traditional yurts have been erected in the ethnographic village, featuring exhibitions showcasing the history, culture and traditions of the Kazakh people. Visitors can also explore displays by folk artisans and artists, exhibitions of agricultural machinery and products from local producers, as well as workshops on traditional crafts.

The festival programme includes competitions in traditional Kazakh sports, including baige (horse racing), qazaq kuresi (Kazakh wrestling), tenge ilu and asyk atu, alongside theatrical performances and concerts by artists from the Almaty Region and leading Kazakh performers.

Children can enjoy amusement rides, a puppet theatre and creative activity zones. Guests are also invited to sample kumys and traditional Kazakh cuisine.
