Almaty to restrict entry of vehicles that do not meet environmental standards

Speaking at the meeting, the Akim said that in the near future at the entrances to the city will be organized 13 environmental positions. Their main task will be to control over incoming traffic for allowable emissions. The entry to the city will be limited for cars that do not pass the test. The Akimsaid that the decision was made primarily for the convenience of Almaty. According to statistics, up to 200 thousand cars from other cities enter Almaty daily.

"The president has approved in principle a program of transport development in Almaty in 2013. Now our main task is to organize the work in a right way. We have acquired from the budget56 devices, which the environmental office will be equipped with. To ensure the transparency of the police, it is necessary to involve the public, and also set the cameras for video recording at all positions," said Akhmetzhan Yesimov.

In addition, the Akim said that they have decided to create four bus stations at the entrances to Almaty, in which will be located parking for nonresident transport, each accommodating up to 5000 places. This will limit the entry of long-distance buses and vehicles.
