Annually 160 million people acquire occupational diseases. The report of the International Labor Organization devoted to workplace safety states. It is published on the occasion of the Labor Day annually celebrated on April 28, the agency reports referring to the UN press center.

Almaty. April 28. Kazakhstan Today - Annually 160 million people acquire occupational diseases. The report of the International Labor Organization devoted to workplace safety states. It is published on the occasion of the Labor Day annually celebrated on April 28, the agency reports referring to the UN press center.

According to the results of the report, annually 2 million 200 thousand people die as a result of accidents at work or the diseases from employment-related causation. 270 million people at their workplace receive different sorts of injuries, which deprive them of their work capacity, at least, for some days. 160 million more acquire occupational diseases.

The authors of the report have called employers and employees of the world to join global ILO campaign on increase of culture of labour safety. They draw attention to the fact that every year the obtained negative figures grow and this is high time to stop this tendency.

ILO General Director Huan Somavia emphasized that the culture of safety should be created in cooperation with the governments, employers and workers by realization of mutual obligations and strengthening of responsibility for creation of safe workplaces.
