610 cases of oncological diseases in children were detected last year.

About five thousand children receive treatment for cancer in Kazakhstan," director of the pediatric surgery research center of the Ministry of Healthcare of Kazakhstan Riza Boranbaeva has announced at a press conference in Almaty.

About 600 new cases of malignant neoplasms in children are detected annually in the country. Among them, 40% (236) are leukemias and 60% (374) solid tumors.

The incidence of malignant neoplasms in 2017 was 12.5 per 100,000 children, in 2016 this figure was 11.5.

In 2017, 610 cases of oncological diseases were detected in children, 558 were registered in 2016. There is an increase in the number of cases by 9.3%, which is mainly attributed to the improvement of the diagnosis of this pathology," Boranbaeva said.

Diagnosis and treatment of children with oncological diseases are carried out within the framework of a guaranteed volume of free medical care. On average, the state allocates 10-12 million tenge for the course of therapy of one patient.

There are two Republican centers for medical care for children with cancer: the Scientific Center for Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery in Almaty and the National Science Center for Maternity and Childhood in Astana, where about 5000 children with malignant tumors are treated for a year in regions, and intensive chemotherapy courses are held in the Republican centers," the director of the science center added.
