Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan signed agreement on settlement of promissory notes

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan signed the intergovernmental agreement on March 5 in Baku on settlement of promissory notes and financial requirements, Azerbaijan Cabinet informed the agency.

Baku. March 7. Kazakhstan Today - Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan signed the intergovernmental agreement on March 5 in Baku on settlement of promissory notes and financial requirements, Azerbaijan Cabinet informed the agency.

The document was signed by the First Vice Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyubov and Vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Hydyr Saparlyev.

According to the agreement, Azerbaijan will pay the debt by 2009 to Turkmenistan at the rate of $44.8 million.

As Y. Eyubov noted the state debt of Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan was basically due to import of Turkmen gas in the beginning of the 90th. The Presidents of two states charged their governments to prepare the document for signing.

Vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan expressed hope for further activization of cooperation between two countries in economic and humanitarian areas.

Azerbaijan earlier recognized debt at the rate of $18 million for import of Turkmen gas as other part of import of Turkmen gas was paid by Azerbaijan goods to Turkmenistan. The Turkmen party estimated the debt for export of gas to Azerbaijan at $56 million.

Settlement of promissory notes between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was the main objective of yesterday's visit to Baku by the Turkmen delegation headed by Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Rashid Meredov.

During the visit the delegation held the meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the President of the country Ilham Aliyev.

According to the administration of the Azerbaijan President, during the meeting of the delegation with the President of Azerbaijan I. Aliyev expressed satisfaction with development of relations with Turkmenistan.

R. Meredov noted that the meeting held in St. Petersburg between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan gives powerful impulse to further development of mutual relations.
