Ban Ki Moon called upon all states to reconsider aging population policy

Almaty. October 3. Kazakhstan Today - On the occasion of Day of Senior Citizens, October 1, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moonin his message called upon all the states to reconsider aging population policy, the agency reports referring to the UN news center.

"The rights of senior citizens are infringed every day in many areas of the world. Senior citizens are quite often exposed to work discrimination. In the social environment they can be deprived of the recognition and respect," the United Nations Secretary General declared.

Ban Ki Moon said that encouragement of independence, participation and dignity of senior citizens has been on the agenda of the United Nations for a long time and has been important for realization of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. He reminded that accepting this plan in 2003, the UN member states have undertaken to eradicate all forms of discrimination, including discrimination on the basis of age." They have recognized that all people irrespective of age should have an opportunity to have a valuable, healthy and safe life and to actively participate in economic, social, cultural and political life of the society.

The UN chairman is assured that to make it a reality, the national policy on ageing population policy should be radically reconsidered and the issues that concern senior citizens be included to a wider structure of formation of policy.

Ban Ki Moon has called upon all people on the planet to achieve realization of the rights of senior citizens and their image of the society of people of all ages.
