Canadian telecommunication satellite Nimiq-4 delivered to Baikonur

Canadian telecommunication satellite Nimiq-4 was delivered to Baikonur on Friday, the agency reports referring to the press service of Hrunichev State Space Research and Production Center.

Baikonur. August 25. Kazakhstan Today - Canadian telecommunication satellite Nimiq-4 was delivered to Baikonur on Friday, the agency reports referring to the press service of Hrunichev State Space Research and Production Center.

According to the press service, "the space satellite and auxiliary equipment was delivered to the airport Yubileyny by plane An-124-100 Ruslan of airline Polet specializing in transportation of large-sized and non-standard cargoes and is the appointed carrier of Federal space agency.

After customs procedures the train with the space satellite and auxiliary equipment will be transported to the assembly testing complex of the platform №92-А50 of the cosmodrome.

"Within the next few days the satellite will be transported to a fair hall, will be erected onto its workplace. The works on the space satellite will be done by the experts of EADS Astrium (manufacturer of Nimiq-4)," the press service informed.

Now the experts of Hrunichev Center are conducting pre-starting preparation of the rocket and the booster block.

The forthcoming launch will be carried out within the limits of the contract concluded between International Launch Services (ILS) and the Canadian operator of satellite communication Telesat Canada.

Satellite Nimiq-4 was constructed on the basis of satellite platform Eurostar E3000 by the European company EADS Astrium and intended for work in the geostationary orbit. КА Nimiq-4 belongs to Telesat Canada - the national Canadian company of the satellite communication providing data transmission and rendering service of broadcast distribution in Northern America.

Launch from Baikonur of space satellite Nimiq-4 by means of the rocket carrier Proton-M is planned in the second half of September 2008.
