Chevron activity - incompatible with fishery development

Almaty. May 28. Kazakhstan Today - Chevron company activity is incompatible with fishery development. The representative of the Open Society Institute for Southern Africa, Elias Isaak, who is familiar with the results of oil pollution of Chevron Company in Angola, stated at the annual meeting of Chevron shareholders in Houston, the agency reports citing the coalition message 'The True Cost of Chevron'.

"Disappearance of fish in Angola shows that Chevron work is incompatible with fishing, though, John Watson (Chevron General Director) states the opposite," E. Isaak said, addressing the shareholders at the meeting.

According to the coalition, many shareholders and their representatives from different corners of the world were refused access to the annual Chevron meeting, despite the fact that they had the documents. The public representatives were not allowed to the annual meeting of Cevron Company as well.

At the same time, Michel Kinman from Crude Accountability, brought up the question of Chevron's role in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. She informed, "During the meeting, Chevron CEO sat with his back to the audience, which is a symbol of disrespect and not transparent activity of the company in the world."

In Kazakhstan, the company owns a 50 percent share in joint venture TengizChevroil. Chevron Caspian Pipeline Consortium Company division also owns 15 % of the Caspian pipeline consortium shares. 20.75 % of shares belongs to Kazakhstan.
