Commission on bioresources of Caspian Sea session to take place in Moscow
Baku. April 18. Kazakhstan Today - The commission on water bioresources of the Caspian Sea will hold 25 session on April 24 in Moscow. The department of reproduction and protection of bioresources of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan informed the agency correspondent.
During the meeting general quota of the near-Caspian countries on sturgeon catch and export of black caviar will be discussed. The quota later will be directed to the Secretariat CITES (Convention on international trade in wild fauna and flora being under threat of disappearance) for further aprovement.
If CITES refuses to approve quotas, the protest at the governmental level should be made to this organization and the claim is to be submitted to the International Economic Court, the department states.
At the forthcoming session recent CITES decision on interdiction prolongation on black caviar export for four near-Caspian countries - Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Russia will be also discussed. Exception is made only for Iran that is authorized to export 45 tons of sturgeons annually.

Oil spill detected in Caspian Sea
According to space monitoring data, received from Sentinel-1A (02:43 UTC), an oil spill was detected on March 30 in the area of Kashagan field in the Caspian Sea. The spill area is about 7 square kilometers. The spill was drifting to the north of the Caspian Sea," the publication reads.
If these facts are confirmed by Atyrau region’s Ecology Department, unscheduled inspection will be conducted at the North Caspian Operating Company. The results will be reported additionally," the Ecology Committee says.
