Death of Caspian seals not connected with outburst of infectious diseases

Aktau. May 25. Kazakhstan Today - As a result of the researches of the remains of the seals found on May, 12-17th at the coast of Tupkaragan area and around Kulaly island in the Caspian Sea, the experts of Almaty Institute of Microbiology and Virology excluded possibility of death of the animals due to mass poisoning or as a result of flash of any infectious diseases. The scientific employee of the laboratory of ecology of viruses of the Institute of Microbiology and Virology, Aydyn Kydyrmanov, informed at the press conference taken place in Aktau on Friday, the agency reports.

"All found dead animals were in the advanced stage of decay, some corpses of seal pups were already mummified. We found dead seals that were trapped in fishing nets while flying around the territory of the coast of the Caspian Sea, from the city of Aktau to the city Fort-Shevchenko and the settlement Bautino. There were found not only adult seals, but also white-coat seals at the age of one month.

A. Kydyrmanov informed that at the moment of inspection of the coastal and sea territories neither sick, nor the weakened seals, or other representatives of fauna of the Caspian Sea were found with chemical signs of any different stage of disease.

"Thus, taking into account the results of the researches of adult seals, we concluded that death of the animals occurred apparently in December - March in the western and northern parts of the sea as a result of intensive fishery," he concluded.

As of today, 353 dead seals have been found. Two dead seals were found in the city of Aktau at the coast of 7th and 15th microdistricts on May, 15th and 20. They were in the advanced stage of decay.
