Delegation of Congress of world and traditional religions took part in discussion of initiative on announcement of UN Decade on interreligious dialogue

Astana. January 14. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan delegation of Congress of world and traditional religions took part in the advisory meeting, the initiative devoted to discussion of the announcement of the UN decade (2010 - 2020) on interreligious dialogue and cooperation in the name of peace in Geneva. The Senate of the Parliament press service informed the agency.

"The advisory meeting, devoted to discussion of the initiative of the announcement of the UN Decade (2010 - 2020) on interreligious dialogue and cooperation in the name of peace, organized by the World Council of Churches and Conference of the nongovernmental organizations at the United Nations (Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the UN (CONGO) will take place in Switzerland, Geneva, on November 8 - November 11, the press release informs.

According to the press service, the representatives of various religions and creeds (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Bahai, Brahma, Sikhism), the UN Institutes (UNESCO, ECOSOS, the Supreme commissariat of the United Nations for Human Rights, the Supreme commissariat of the United Nations for Refugees, UNDP), the nongovernmental organizations dealing with intercultural and inter confessional dialogue (the Society of Saint Egidio, the International association of freedom of religions, Association of interreligious associations, the Jordanian Royal Institute of Interreligious Researches, the United Religious Initiative, etc.), and also the ambassadors of Italy, Romania, Philippines, Russia, Cyprus, accredited in Switzerland took part in meeting.

Kazakhstan at the forum was represented by the delegation of the Secretariat of the Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions headed by the chairman of the Department of Inter-parliamentary Relations and International Cooperation of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Berik Aryn.

"The main purpose of the event was development of proposals on declaration of the UN Decade, discussion of the mechanisms of promotion of the initiative and maintenance of broad support of the UN member states and the interested organizations. The project of the resolution is planned to be introduced at the forthcoming 63rd General Assembly of the United Nations in September 2008," the press service explained.
