Deputies against Constitution norm on Russian language used equally along with Kazakh

Astana. February 21. Kazakhstan Today - The group of Majilis deputies headed by Mukhtar Shahanov does not agree with the norm of the Constitution stating that Russian should be used at the officially level along with Kazakh in state organizations and institutions of local government, the agency reports.

In this connection the deputy group asked the Constitutional council to explain whether "the state language has a priority over the officially used language not in the state organizations, at the state and socially significant events, such as assemblies, conferences and so on," and also "if the term "at the same level" in the context of clause 2 of item 7 of the Constitution has any relation to the above-mentioned events."

In his turn, participated in the session of the Constitutional council Vice Minister of Justice Serik Nugmanov noted "the question of the use of the state language in other than state organizations within the limits of the specified norms of the Constitution is not possible to consider." "The Kazakh language is not kept down according to the legal norms," he emphasized.

The Chairman of the Constitutional council Igor Rogov stated that the council leaves for the consultative room to pronounce judgment." "The time and the place of the judgment announcement will be informed later," he added.
